Is Floyd Mayweather Overconfident About Manny Pacquiao Bout?

I guess you have to give them credit. The Mayweathers never lose confidence in Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his ability to defeat anyone that could potentially end up in the ring with him.

In a recent interview, Roger Mayweather eagerly shared his opinions on numerous topics with my colleague Chris Robinson. But, it was Roger’s comments about Manny Pacquiao that will surely turn up the heat in the entire Mayweather/Pacquiao saga. Let’s examine further:

“I know the next fight that everybody wants it to be. Of course the only fight that makes sense is him and [Manny] Pacquiao. Pacquiao is going to get his as* whipped just like Shane Mosley. It’s actually going to be much easier."

"Any time a guy doesn’t want to take a drug test it tells you a lot about a guy. If the fight doesn’t come off it’s because he doesn’t want to take that test. If the fight doesn’t come off it won’t be because Floyd turned the fight down.”

Pacquiao is a much better fighter than Mosley at this point in time. In fact, Pacquiao is a better fighter than Shane Mosley ever was, and that’s saying a lot because Shane will be a hall of famer. Thus, if Manny is better than Shane then the fight shouldn’t be easier.

"Any time a guy doesn’t want to take a drug test it tells you a lot about a guy."

Once again, Roger is wrong. Not only did Manny say he would take the tests, but he has now come down to the cut-off dates that Floyd Jr.  originally wanted. Does this sound like a fighter who is trying to avoid taking tests? What this tells me is that Manny is the only one that’s realistically trying to make this fight happen.

"If the fight doesn’t come off it won’t be because Floyd turned the fight down."

No, it will be because Floyd thinks he should get all the money despite the fact that he’s technically not the best fighter in the world, despite the fact that the PPV numbers for their last two fights are closer than he wants admit, and despite the fact that Manny has won more titles and defeated more hall of fame opponents. I could go on but you guys get the point. They should either split the purse 50/50 or have a winner’s purse.

So technically, Roger is correct. The fight negotiations won’t come to an end because of Floyd turning it down. It will come to an end because Floyd Jr. will keep making absurd demands.

Conclusion

I give these trainers credit for being confident in their fighters. I give them credit for boasting that their fighters will win. But they have a huge stake in the matter so their opinions are skewed at best. However, Roger should focus more on his upcoming trial than trying to bury Pacquiao with inaccurate facts.
