3:26pm

Kings GM Dean Lombardi has been seen talking to Toronto GM Brian Burke on the draft floor once again. He is rumoured to be interested in acquiring Tomas Kaberle, no word on what would come back to Toronto. Anze Koptiar is likely high on Burke's list.

3:21pm

With the 18th pick in the fourth round the Flames selected 6'0" 218lb center Bill Arnold. He currently plays for the USA Under 18 team in the USHL. He is noted to be a solid player in both the offensive zone and defensive zone. Look for him to become a solid third line center. He has committed to play for Boston College in September 2010. His childhood hockey idol was former Boston Bruin Terry O'Reilly, whom he watched with his Dad on tape. His favorite thing about O'Reilly was his hard working nature on the ice.

3:14pm

With the 21st selection in the fourth round the Red Wings selected 5'11" 183lb left winger Teemu Pulkkinen. He currently plays for Jokerit in Finland. He led all scorers at the World Under 18 tournament with 10 goals this past year. He is a gifted offensive player but will need time to round out his game. Luckily being drafted by Detroit means he will be granted paitence and likely will not come over to North America next season.

3:02pm

Toronto GM Brian Burke has made another trade. He has traded the 22nd pick in the fourth round to Anaheim for Mike Brown. The 25-year-old is 5'11" 201lbs and was the 159th overall pick in the 2004 NHL Draft. He saw action in 75 games last year scoring six goals, one assist, with a plus-1 rating and 106 penalty minutes. His true is shown with his 124 hits, 17 blocked shots and nine takeaways.

2:59pm

After Russian prospect Evgeny Kuznetsov was drafted by the Washington Captials he was called by Alex Ovechkin and welcomed to the team. Classy move by the Captials and Ovechkin. I am sure he was thrilled to speak to one of the best players in the world.

2:53pm

With the 17th pick of the fourth round Colorado selected another goaltender, Sami Aittokallio. He is 6'1" 174lbs from Finland and currently plays for Ilves Jr in the Finnish Junior League. He suffered a leg injury which kept him out of the Under 18 World Championships. He has been compared to Pekka Rinne in terms of his skill set.

Looks like the Avalanche are stocking up on goaltending prospects this year.

2:52pm

From Doug Maclean of Sportsnet, former Columbus and Florida GM, Donald Fehr could take over as NHLPA Executive Director within two weeks.

2:50pm

Minor trade for the Leafs, they traded the 112th overall choice to Washington for the 116th and 146th pick.

2:47pm

Chicago GM Stan Bowman and Vancouver GM Mike Gillis are talking together on the draft table. Versteeg and Ladd are those rumoured ot be available in Chicago.

Also with the Leafs up for the 112th overall pick Brian Burke is currently in a conference call.

2:43pm

With the 13th pick of the fourth round the Calgary Flames selected 6'1" 184lb defenseman John Ramage. He is the son of former NHL defender Rob Ramage whom was drafted first overall by the Colorado Rockies in 1979. He played 1044 NHL games posting 139 goals and 564 points. He played for Colorado, St. Louis, Calgary, Toronto, Minnesota, Tampa Bay, Montreal, and Philadelphia between 1979 and 1994.

John is playing for the University of Wisconsin and is noted to be a tough, physical defenseman that plays with an edge. He is limited offensively but should develop into a shutdown defenseman at the NHL level given time to develop.

2:38pm

With the 12th pick in the fourth round the Columbus Blue Jackets selected goaltender Mathieu Corbeil-Theriault. He is a gigantic netminder at 6'6" and 186lbs. He is from the goalie factory of Quebec and currently plays in the OHL for Halifax. He has shown good quickness in the net for a large young man. He exhibts good rebound control and thinks the game well. His coach Cam Russell says he has matured into a team leader this past season.

This young man's size makes him an inticing NHL prospect.

2:31pm

Steven Shipley is selected 8th in the fourth round by the Buffalo Sabres. He is a 6'2" 205 center currently playing for Owen Sound in the OHL. He is a skilled offensive played but a noted concern is his skating. He is from Ilderton, Ontario which is the same town where Canada's Olympic ice dance gold medalists Tessa Virtue adn Scott Moir where first paired.

2:21pm

New Jersey drafts a goaltender with the 24th pick of the third round. He is a 6'1" 195lb goaltender that saw action in 18 games for the Plymouth Whalers in the OHL. He posted a 3.26 goals against average and a .909 save percentage with one shutout. With Brodeur aging and only Jeff Fraaze in the system as a prospet goaltender look for the Devils to draft another goalie.

2:15pm

Looks like the buzz is that Dan Hamhuis has his sights set on signing with the Vancouver Canucks after July 1st. Looks like the Flyers and the Canucks both wasted valuable assets on his negotiating rights.

2:10pm

Toronto traded their third round pick in the 2012 draft for the Kings 19th pick in the third round. With that pick Toronto selected 6'3" 172lb winger Sondre Olden from Oslo, Norway. He currently plays for Modo Jr. in the Swedish Junior League. He scored seven goals, 27 points and 22 penalty minutes in 32 games.

Looks like a player with potential that the Leafs will need to be patient with in his development.

1:56pm

Russian Kirill Kabanov is selected with the New York Islanders fith pick in the third round. He is a 6'2" 173lb left winger that played for Moncton of the QMJHL. His hockey idol is Valeri Kharlamov, a 1972 Summit Series great, and pays tribute to him by wearing number 17 and has XVII tattooed on his left wrist.

Also, it appears that the Flyers and Lightning are in the running for Evgeni Nabokov and there are a couple teams interested in the right to St. Louis Blues goaltender Chris Mason. Mason is on the oustide looking in with the Blues since they acquired Jaroslav Halak from the Canadiens.

1:52pm

With the third pick in the third round Steve Yzerman's Tampa Bay Lightning selected Brock Beukeboom, the son of former NHLer Jeff Beukeboom. He has a good, hard and accurate shot. Seems to be able to find the lanes to get shots through from the point. He is a strong, mobile defenceman that makes good first passes out of the defending zone.

1:49pm

With the second pick in the third round Toronto selected Greg McKegg. He is a 6'0" 191lb center that played for the Erie Otters of the OHL this past season. He is a player that thinks the game well and is skilled offensively. He was named Most Sportsmanlike, Most Improved, Scholastic Award Winner, and Three Star Award winner for the team in 2008-09.

1:45pm

With the 28th pick in the second round Chicago drafted 6'3" 182lb goaltender Kent Simpson. He currently played for Everett of the WHL and is noted to be an exceptional postional goaltender that uses his size to make stops, JS Giguere anyone? He was also named 2009-10 Everett Silvertips Scholastic Player of the Year. In his spare time he likes to play golf and guitar.

1:42pm

Toronto GM Brian Burke and LA Kings GM Dean Lombardi in deep discussing by the draft stage, possibly taking trade? Kaberle would look good alongside Jack Johnson and Drew Doughty on the Kings blueline.

1:37pm

Carolina selected, 23rd in the second round, Mark Alt. He is a 6'3" 199lb defenceman from North Oaks, Minnesota. His father is former NFL tackle, Jon Alt. His father played for the Kansas City Chiefs.

In 2009, Mark quarterbacked the Cretin-Derham Hall football team to a state title and was named Minnesota's Most Outstanding High School Football Player.

Mark passed on the oppourtunity to play football for the University of Iowa for a chance to pursue a hockey career.

Next season he is committed to play for the University of Minnesota Gophers.

1:33pm

The top ranked North American goalie by NHL Central Scouting dropped to the 19th pick in the second round. Colorado picked the 6'1" 195 native of Winnipeg, Manitoba. He currently plays for Seattle in the WHL. He is a big goaltender who relies mostly on this excellent positional play to make saves.

His brother Chet was a the 18th overall pick by the Nashville Predators in the 2008 draft. Currently Chet plays in the AHL for the Milwaukee Admirals.

1:31pm

The unsigned draft choice traded by the Leafs for Chicago's 13th pick of the second round was not named as Brian Burke has yet to call him. Classy move by Mr. Burke.

1:27pm

The Kings trade for Colorado's 17th pick of the second round to select Tyler Toffoli. He was originally rated 16th overall among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting. He has a lethal wrist shot and has been compared to Corey Perry. His favorite book is Twilight, must be excited about the premiere of Eclipse this coming week!

1:24pm

Edmonton trades unsigned draft pick Riley Nash for the 16th pick in the second round, selecting Martin Marincin. He is a 6'4" 187lb defenceman that wants to play in the CHL next season. His favorite television show is Step By SteP (no joke).

1:19pm

Toronto trades unsigned draft choice, name not annouced at this time, for Chicago's second round pick. They selected Brad Ross, a player with energy and grit. The 6'0" 175lb left winger plays for the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL. He is not an overly skilled play but creates room for his teammates. Think Steve Ott and Matt Cookie as comparable NHL players. He had 20 goals and 200 plus penalty minutes.

Sounds like a Brian Burke type player to be sure.

1:17pm

Chicago taking time to make their second round pick, possible trade in the works? Currently talking to Brian Burke.

1:14pm

The New York Ranger select Christian Thomas with the nineth pick in the second round. Christian is a 5'9" 162lb right winger playing for the Oshawa Generals of the OHL. His father Steve "Stumpy" Thomas played over 1200 NHL games with Toronto, Chicago, New York Islanders, New Jersey, Anaheim, and Detriot.

The younger Thomas is said to be a hard-working player. He battles and plays a two way game.

1:11pm

Rumours that Marc Savard of the Boston Bruins has waived his no trade clause for the Bruins to trade him to one of two teams. Brian Burke is also active on the phone at this point. Could Toronto be one of those teams?

1:08pm

John McFarland is finally selected 33rd overall by the Florida Panthers. He is projected to become a Brendan Morrow type character player that can put up 30 goals and 60 points and providing leadership in the dressing room.

1:06pm

31st overall Edmonton selects Tyler Pitlick. The 6'2" 192lb center plays for Minnesota State. He is said to have great offensive instincts.

1:00pm

It is being reported that the San Jose Sharks have resigned vetern center Scott Nichol and veteran defenceman and Stanley Cup winner with the Carolina Hurricanes, Niclas Wallin. Both are valuable depth players for the franchise moving forward in their quest for the Stanley Cup.

12:56pm

The top ranked North American skaters still available are John McFarland (ranked 15th by NHL Central Scouting) and Tyler Toffoli (ranked 16th by NHL Central Scouting). Both are Canadian born players with McFarland playing for Sudbury of the OHL and Toffoli playing for Ottawa of the OHL.

The the number one ranked North American goaltender Calvin Pickard from Canada is still available, as is top ranked European goaltender Sami Aittokallio from Finland.

12:47pm

Rumours that Toronto GM Brian Burke was busy on the draft floor with Chicago GM Stan Bowman, possible trade in the works? It has been thrown around in the past the Campbell and Kaberle could be parts of a potential trade there.

On the Marc Savard front, there are rumours that his former team, the Atlanta Thrashers, are in the hunt for his services. New Thrashers GM Rick Dudley has been a busy man with his new squad. Already dealing for Byfuglien and now rumoured to be after Savard.

Thoughts and rumours From The First Round

The question of Taylor or Tyler was answered when the Oilers made Taylor Hall their first overall selection. There were also rumours that the Oilers were pursuing the second overall selection but the Boston Bruins decided to select Tyler Seguin rather than trade the pick.

With the Bruins selection of the centerman Seguin is it rumoured that Marc Savard will be dealt prior to the upcoming 2010-11 NHL season. If Savard was dealt the Bruins would still have Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci, Gregory Campbell and likely Tyler Seguin as their top four centermen for this coming season.

It has also been reported that the Pittsburgh Penguins and Sergei Gonchar are too far apart on a new contract. The span is one year, the Penguins are offering a two year term with a flexible dollar amount but Gonchar and his agent want three years. The problem with three years is that once a player is over 35 years of age their contract counts against the salary cap even if they retire. With Gonchar currently 36 years old the Penguins do not want to assume that risk.

It appears this impasse has lead the Penguins to deal their third round pick in the 2011 draft to the Philadelphia Flyers for the rights to Dan Hamhuis. The 27-year-old defenceman is rumoured to be seeking a four year deal worth four million dollars per season.

The other note able trade involving players was the Vancouver Canucks sending Steve Bernier, Michael Grabner and their 25th overall pick in the draft to the Florida Panthers. In return the Panthers sent Keith Ballard and right winger Victor Oreskovich to the Canucks and used the 25th overall pick to select Quinton Howden.

The Flyers are likely to be active once again today. They got burned by Nashville by sending former first round pick, defenceman Ryan Parents to them for the rights to Dan Hamhuis. They were unable to agree on contract terms and then shipped his rights to the Penguins for a third round pick in next years draft.

General Manager Paul Holmgren is rumoured to be discussing the trading of Evegeni Nabokov's rights with the San Jose Sharks. As always goaltending is a need of the Flyers franchise.

Of course what would draft day be like without some rumoured trading partners for Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Tomas Kaberle. There are rumours from multiple sources indicating that there are teams sending offers to Brian Burke. Thus far Burke seems to be remaining patient in hopes that a better offer comes along.

Other trades from the first round of the draft included Florida trading their 15th selection for the Kings 19th and 59th picks.

The Senators traded their 16th selection for the Blues first round pick (17th overall) from last season, Swedish defenceman David Rundblad.

The Coyotes traded their 22nd and 113th picks for Montreal's 27th and 57th picks.

The final trade of the first round saw the Blackhawks trade the 30th overall pick to the Islanders for their 35th and 58th picks.

It is now 12:27pm eastern time, so we are nearly 30 minutes away from the beginning of round two. Check back for live updates on this 2010 NHL Entry Draft live blog.
